Module 2: Lesson 1: Topic 1: Background
CORC is a web-based application that provides a convenient and secure way for hospitals to submit
CABG Data to HCAI.
CORC makes it easier and faster for hospitals to submit data to HCAI and get submission results
(usually within 24 hours). CORC also shortens the time it takes for HCAI to provide outcome studies
to the public.
Development
CORC was developed for three specific purposes:
- To accelerate the collection of CABG Data through direct, secure, online transmissions
- To improve the quality of submitted data by implementing detailed validation processes in the data collection program
- To provide timely feedback to hospitals on submitted/validated data
Technology
Examples of CORC utilizing Advanced Technology to accelerate the collection and dissemination of CABG Data include:
- Using the Internet to submit data, retrieve submission results, and provide error reports
- Encrypting data for security
- Restricting access to CORC, through the use of "user names" and "passwords"
- Restricting access to specific functions within CORC, through the use of "user roles"
-
Allowing hospitals to repeatedly test their data and correct errors before "Official"
submission, through the use of a "Test Submission" feature
-
Allowing hospitals to enter and submit records directly through CORC, through the use of
a "Web Entry" feature
- Correcting errors online
Data Types
Presently the CORC System only collects CABG Data, but it could be upgraded to handle additional types of
data in the future.
